Which type of wood is auspicious?
Detailed literature is available in the scriptures as to which of the wood should be used in the Mansion. It is also mentioned that which of the tree wood should not be used. In the construction of the house for Vastu Shanti.
The wood of the trees grown in the path of cremation ground, tank, chaitya and hermit should not be used in the house. The white wood and that of the trees grown inside the border line of the city park, or that of grown in the bitter, sour, pungent and salty soil is also forbidden.
Small and old trees should be left. The age of sheesham tree has been determined upto 300 years. More than 16 years old and upto 150 years old wood of sheesham has been considered proper.
Having too much cuts, yellow and pungent skinned trees have also been considered nonprofit-able. Curved, dried, burnt, standing at bad places, having broken branches or two branch trees have also been considered causing troubles. The tree coupled with another tree, fallen because of electric stike and broken from the winds, fallen by river, with knots, emitting the juice, shelter of bhramar and snakes, covered with ants, contaminated by the non-vegetarian birds, covered with the webs of spider, having big trunk from the very root, givers of fruits and flowers in the days of famine, suffering from ailments, shelters of owls etc. are forbidden and wood of these trees should not be used in the house. Thorny, having tasty fruits and fragrance tress (not plants) are destructive to animals. It is proper to use new wood in the new house and old wood in the old house. After uprooting old wood from a wrecked house should not be used in the new house. If it is done the owner of new house will not be able to stay there. If he stays it will be fatal. Bricks, iron, stone, soil, wood and dried grass these all should be used in the new house.
